What to expect on our Reel Tuff fishing trips
Simply turn up and let the fun begin!
Bring your lunch and leave the rest (and the mess) to us!
All you need to bring is your lunch, sun hat, sunscreen and a raincoat because it’s Auckland after all. We supply the bait, the rods and equipment you need and our local knowledge of the best fishing spots for that time of year.
To maximise rod time in the water, our team are on hand to help retrieve fish and rebait your hooks so you can focus on fishing. Keep what you catch or throw it back to fight another day, the choice is yours. We’ll ensure the size is legal and that we’re all fishing responsibly to preserve fish stocks for future generations.
We encourage you to have fun, relax and shake off the stress of the week out on the water, at one with nature.
Whether you come alone or as part of a group, you’ll find the vibe friendly and encouraging, especially if you’re a novice and need some extra guidance to catch your first big one. While we’re always aiming to help you catch your personal best, a charter is often the place to catch your limit of 30 – 40cm ‘pannies’ – these are the most plentiful snapper size and also the tastiest to eat we reckon.
We invite groups for special occasions and events as well as couples or singles, no matter who you come with, a fun day out on the water is guaranteed!
WE SUPPLY ALL OF THIS!
RODS & REELS
Rod and reel hire is included in the price, but you’re welcome to bring your weapon of choice (as long as it’s just a fishing rod).
BAIT
Our bait of choice is squid or pilchards which is all supplied. We’ll even bait your hooks! If soft baiting is more your thing, you’re welcome to bring some along.
FISHING TACKLE
Pesky snags happen! If you lose your hook & sinker, we’ve got plenty of replacement rigs to get you back fishing fast!
EXPERIENCED CREW
Our skipper Brad has a lot of experience fishing these waters and is all about safety first. He’s fully qualified and Kylee is there to help you out too.
DRINKING WATER
It can be thirsty work out there. We provide bottles of water but please bring a packed lunch and other refreshments to keep your energy levels up!
FISH FOR DINNER
It goes without saying but that’s what we’re all about. Our aim is to make sure you go home with the one that didn’t get away!
‘Safety first’ is our motto
Before we depart, we’ll take you through a quick safety briefing, outlining the rules onboard such as wearing a lifejacket and a few important things to note for your safety and convenience.
While we encourage fun and allow alcohol onboard, we do take our responsibilities seriously. We take a “Safety First” approach and reserve the right to turn away anyone that turns up intoxicated. Should you become too inebriated during a private charter, we will decide to call it and take you back to shore.
What if the weather gods aren’t kind?
One thing we unfortunately can’t control is the weather…and Auckland being Auckland, it’s hard to say too far out what the weather will do!
We want everyone to be safe and have an enjoyable time out on the water so we won’t take risks. If it’s looking questionable, we’ll give you as much notice as possible if the trip is unlikely to go ahead. We’ll do our best to either reschedule your trip or refund you.
What sort of fish will we catch?
While the target species is usually snapper, we also catch a variety of other fish. Some of the best eaters you may catch include kingfish, kahawhai, trevally, gurnard and the occasional John Dory.
If you are unfamiliar with what you haul up, don’t worry! Our deckhands will advise on whether to keep it or put it back to live another day.
